Artemis Alliance, Inc. Starts
Business Rules User Group
St. Paul, MN – September 2004
– Artemis Alliance, Inc., a full-service information
technology firm specializing in Business Rules
Management, announced that it has started a Business
Rules User Group (BRUG), believed to be the first in the
nation. Business rules are of great interest to
companies that are experiencing business change far more
rapidly than traditional, code-based software
architectures can gracefully support. Working with a
variety of clients in an increasingly heavily-regulated,
ever-changing world, Artemis realized that there was a
need for a user’s group that would provide a setting for
both business and technical members to gain and share
knowledge about business rule and inference engine
technologies, projects, and initiatives.
The first meeting will be held on
September 15, 2004 at the University of St. Thomas in
St. Paul, MN. Over 30 people from 16 companies
representing the insurance, banking, mortgage, health
care, software, financial services, and health & fitness
sectors are scheduled to attend. Michael Krouze, Chief
Technology Officer of Artemis Alliance, Inc. will
present a case study dealing with the issues and
decisions involved in developing and implementing a
rule-based architecture for the production of insurance
policies followed by a Q&A session and discussion. Plans
for future meetings will be also be discussed. For
additional information on the BRUG, go to

“It was clear that many of our
clients were interested in gaining the advantages of
business rules, but were unable to get the help they
needed to get started. The idea of starting this user
group grew out of discussions at Artemis about how we
could meet this need,” said Donna Hentges, Chief
Executive Officer of Artemis Alliance. Ms Hentges
continued, “It just made sense to us to bring people
from both the business and technology sides to share
information and insights as well as profit from Artemis
extensive experience in the integrating both
perspectives as to the most effective use of business
rules management tools, products, and supporting
technologies.”
About Business Rules
Business rules are a formal
expression of the knowledge or preferences of an
organization. A business rules approach deploys
technology that externalizes and manages the thinking or
decision-making capacity of an organization thereby
empowering the organization to use technology as an
extension of its intellectual power. Once a business
rules system is in place, non-technical analysts can
more quickly introduce business rule changes allowing
the organization to anticipate or react quickly to the
ever-changing regulatory or competitive environment.
Overall, the automation of complex decisions for various
business processes results in improved sales or faster
response to customers, and shorter lead times in general
while lowering costs through increased productivity,
reduced engineering times and fewer errors.
